Once I Left Your Opinion of Me by the Side of the Road and the Ravens Pecked it Down to Dust by Beth Wolfe

You see,
what you thought never
mattered to me
in the slightest

and while you did succeed
in swaying a few opinions,
in the end
you were the one

discarded, rotting like roadkill
where the crows, ravens,
and buzzards descended
and left nothing

to remember you by.

Beth Wolfe is a higher education administrator and writer living in Scott Depot, West Virginia. A native Appalachian, her writing is as eclectic as her English and chemistry teaching background would suggest. Her work has appeared in the Women of Appalachia ProjectBeltway Poetry QuarterlyThey Call Us, Untelling, and in the annual Body Shots performances at her alma mater, Marshall University. Her house is full of jazz thanks to her husband and dog hair thanks to her Golden Retrievers. While she tries to rely on forgiveness more than retribution, she is a sucker for the revenge saga known as Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2. “You and I have unfinished business.” ——The Bride
