OUR JUSTICE? POETIC.

Three Poems by A.J. Huffman

I Dream of Dismembering

his mind. Bloodied
up to my elbows, I forage for memories.
Digging deeper, I pluck pieces that were
already broken. One of us pulls free.
Splatters, a metaphorical road kill lost
to the floor. I stomp in it
to make sure it is dead, then return
to my visceral vivisection. Almost immediately
two of me are found and released.
For a moment I plot an appropriate demise.
Instead I choose to breathe
out, exhorting their escape. I smile
and they wave, then waiver as the night disappears.

I Dream of Swimming

in pools of my enemies’ blood.
Forget virgins, their innocence was
never the key to turning back time.
And who wants to anyway?

I would rather ride into the present
sunset, blazing with power,
fueled by defeat of the masses who wish
me gone.

My veins alight with a headier shade
of blue, surge in motivational waves.
Nothing controls me but me.

Call me monster, vampire, leech,
even shark. I will answer.
Predator in my best finery.

Understand that whatever I seek
is exactly what I always manage
to take.

I Dream of Lighting

this world on fire. I was born to be
combustible. Daughter of Phoenix,
I came out of the womb alight
with the desire to consume everything
around me. I am pyrokinetic
display of destruction, moving at the speed
of heat. I trail gasoline
and carry no less than a thousand matches.
I believe to breathe is to burn,
and look forward
to a future drowning in ash.
